Flushing the bathroom

Bathrooms

The layout of the house has the full bathroom in the main hallway for access from all the bedrooms.

Since my parents are older our main goal with this bathroom was to replace the tub with a full shower as it is easier for them to access. The secondary goal was to change everything else! 😉

Here is what we were working with. Some real…custom work…

This bathroom was the biggest overall project for the house and therefore the first thing we tackled.

I got my first experience with new tile floors and grouting, rebuilding a toilet and shopping for the design we had in mind!

The work was hard and took a while as we did this on our days off but I think it was totally worth it! The color of the paint really does not show well in these photos but the pale green gives a bright and warm feel to the space.

  1. Is it a high toilet and is the doorway wide enough for a wheelchair?
Is there at least two bar holds in the shower area. Is the shower head moveable so someone could sit in the shower and the head would pull out and come down to them. Can you roll a wheel a wheelchair into the shower?

Your work looks lovely as well as so thoughfull., Love, E

    1. Great questions! We did widen the door to a standard size it was only 20 inches before!!!! As for the handle bars, we plan to add those when they move in to where they would prefer them to be. There are ADA standards for this but we wanted to make sure those standards actually were useful for the users. As for the wheelchair, no you can not roll it in. We would have had to do major concrete demolition for that and it simply was not in the budget and time frame. We have a small bench we will add to the shower when needed.
